You may or may not have heard that we have a hurricane out in the Gulf right now. If you have a few moments to spare, please pray for Houston and the Texas coast -- currently (and things may change), it's looking like Hurricane Ike (projected to be a Category 3 when it makes landfall) is heading straight for us. I've never been in a hurricane before -- Greg has a couple times. But needless to say, growing up nowhere near hurricane threats, I'm a little nervous. That's why I married Greg -- he keeps me calm most of the time. Anyway, the current track is for the eye of the hurricane to head in a direct path right over our town. They are projecting 90-100 mph winds for us. I don't know about you all, but I've never been in 90-100 mph winds. I love wind (it's actually my favorite force of nature), but I'm pretty sure this is not what I'm used to. Anyway, here are a few of our prayer requests:
1) Please pray for the safety of everyone in the hurricane's path, that if people need to evacuate the coast, they will make smart decisions to do so. We are planning on staying, since we are an hour inland. Also, pray for electricity and no major damage. We have a huge pine tree in our backyard, so we would love for it not to fall on our house or anyone else's.
2) My classroom is currently in a trailer, and the news has warned us that mobile homes/trailers may not survive the winds. I will probably move a lot of my stuff out of the trailer, and thankfully, we were scheduled to move into a new building next door within the next couple of weeks anyway, so there is provision for a new classroom should anything happen.
3) Please pray for the City of Houston's leadership, that they will make wise decisions. Their leadership will determine a lot about how the people of Houston respond.
4) Please pray for God's name to be made great, for there to be ample opportunities to share His love and His grace and His mercy, no matter what the situation. We know that God is sovereign, and He is in control of the entire situation, so we are trusting in Him, no matter what happens.
