What Is Your Deepest Passion

Many of us define our deepest passion as what brings us our greatest joy/happiness. This week I am spending a week with 26 other people seeking to understand our greatest passion, God's desire for us, and how to engage others in meaningful, life-transforming conversations.

For most of us, if we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we would like to believe that God is our deepest passion. The question that arises from that statement is that if He is our deepest passion, how is that reflected in your life. Is the fact that you are a member of a "good" church, tithe on a regular basis, teach Sunday School, pray at your meals when others are watching, actually sing out loud during the service, take notes, read religious books, talk the talk, go on mission trips, read your Bible, or even share your faith with a stranger? I believe that these are all good things and are important, but they may not be a true reflection of our deepest passion. If we believe all the things we say we do and say God is our deepest passion...why are we not changed and why do we pursue second things?

In our culture we have been taught to do the right things and avoid the bad things. On the outside this may look good but on the inside it can rot away our souls. When the passion to be godly is driven by outward pressure it can grow resentment towards God. When we catch a glimpse of the man or woman we have been created to be...the desire to be godly is not driven by outward influences but by the the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives and a longing to reflect the glory of our Father.
